Dr. Amanda Hanzel began her veterinary career in a mixed animal practice, where she was on call for emergencies, gaining invaluable experience across a wide range of species. During the COVID-19 pandemic, while working as a relief doctor, she discovered a passion for emergency medicine. This led her to pursue a full-time role in this challenging and rewarding field.
After providing relief services at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists for some time, Dr. Hanzel decided to join the team full-time. She was drawn by the high caliber of medicine practiced at GCVS and the opportunity to work with a dedicated staff and access to a broad spectrum of specialists, which allows her to provide the best possible care for her patients.
Outside of work, Dr. Hanzel enjoys spending quality time with her beloved pets: two dogs, an Aussie mix named Busy and an Irish Setter named Barnaby, three brown tabby cats—Peka and Mike, both bottle babies she raised and kept when they were brought into the clinic, and Monty, a stray she adopted during vet school—and two horses, Brown and Gabe.
