Dr. Canning earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Vanderbilt University before pursuing his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University. During his veterinary studies, Dr. Canning discovered his passion for dermatology and embarked on a dedicated path to specialize in this field. He completed a dermatology internship at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists and a residency at the University of Pennsylvania.
After practicing veterinary dermatology for two years in Cincinnati, Ohio, Dr. Canning returned to Houston and rejoined GCVS. He is thrilled to be back in such a vibrant and diverse city. Dr. Canning’s clinical interests include providing long-awaited answers for pets suffering from chronic skin or ear conditions. As a veterinary dermatologist, he is committed to alleviating the frustration and discomfort experienced by these patients.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Canning enjoys exploring Houston’s museums, science centers, and the zoo, as well as spending time at home with his family and pets.
