Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists Partners with Corridor Rescue to Help Rango, a Resilient Pup, Find His Forever Home

Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists (GCVS) is proud to partner with Corridor Rescue to help a courageous and lovable dog named Rango on his journey to recovery and ultimately to find his forever home.

Rango’s story with Corridor Rescue began on March 1, 2024, when Corridor Rescue found him limping near an abandoned auto body shop. Local residents shared that he had been injured for over a week. At just two years old, Rango has already faced immense challenges, including an old pelvic fracture, a brachial plexus injury to his front right leg, and a positive heartworm diagnosis.

Recognizing his urgent need for specialized care, Corridor Rescue entrusted Rango to the expert team at GCVS. Under the care of GCVS’ orthopedic, neurology, and rehabilitation departments, Rango began his long road to recovery.

Despite the healing of his pelvis, Rango has experienced significant setbacks. Calcification at the fracture site may be impinging on his spinal nerves, leading to episodes of debilitating pain that temporarily render him unable to walk. To address this, Rango has undergone laser therapy, physical therapy, spinal epidurals, and numerous medication adjustments.

Rango’s resilience and sweet nature have shone through every challenge. Now in a loving foster home, he continues to work hard at regaining use of his hind limb while GCVS and Corridor Rescue collaborate to refine his treatment plan and manage his pain. In addition, Rango has undergone fast-kill heartworm treatment, though further care is needed following a faint positive result at his six-month retest.

For all he has endured, Rango remains a playful, affectionate pup who charms everyone he meets. His joyful personality even wins over the most selective dogs at Corridor Rescue’s kennel facility. While his journey to full recovery continues, Rango is ready to experience the comfort and love of a forever home.

Thank you to Robyn Arouty for capturing Rango’s beautiful portrait.
