Saving Lives Together: GCVS and Pura Sanguine Seek Forever Home for Hero Dogs, Meka & Kalena
Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists (GCVS) is proud to be partnered with Pura Sanguine to find a loving home for a special sibling duo, Meka (male) and Kalena (female). These four-year-old brindle siblings were abandoned in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Through every challenge they’ve faced, their bond has remained unbreakable.
Pura Sanguine, known for its life-saving mission, stepped in to rescue Meka and Kalena from euthanasia. The organization works tirelessly to save pets from overcrowded shelters, providing these animals with a second chance by making them “Little Heroes.” Through this program, Meka and Kalena have been helping save the lives of our GCVS patients by donating much-needed blood for veterinary care. In return, Pura Sanguine ensures all their Hero donors find loving homes through their “Love Guaranteed” adoption initiative. GCVS relies on blood blanks like Pura Sanguine to provide life-saving blood for its patients, making this collaboration especially meaningful.
Meka and Kalena are inseparable and thrive on their shared love for the outdoors. Whether it’s splashing in water or playfully wrestling together, these siblings are happiest when they’re side by side. Kalena (female), the outgoing one, loves to bring the party, while Meka (male) enjoys quiet moments and cuddles. They eat, play, and even sleep together, embodying the true spirit of brotherly and sisterly love.
This partnership between GCVS, Pura Sanguine, and Houston-based photographer Robyn Arouty, is a concerted effort to spotlight Meka and Kalena’s journey – from being abandoned to becoming Hero donors and now to finding their forever home.
