GCVS Partners with Houston Rabbit Resource to Help Resilient Rabbit, Freyja, Find Her Forever Home

Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists (GCVS) has partnered with Houston Rabbit Resource to find a loving home for a very special rabbit named Freyja. A true survivor, Houston Rabbit Resources believes Freyja spent at least a year navigating life on the streets after being abandoned by her former owner.

When volunteers from Houston Rabbit Resource finally secured Freyja, they discovered that she was not only pregnant but also in critical need of medical attention. After being taken to be spayed at Houston Spay and Neuter, Freyja was then brought to GCVS, as it revealed that she had two large subcutaneous masses on her left side and one near her sternum, requiring multiple surgeries over weeks. Through it all, Freyja’s gentle spirit remained strong, endearing her to the entire veterinary and rescue team.

A large grey rabbit with chinchilla-like fur sits on a black and white polka dot cushion inside a wire pen enclosure.

Named after the Norse goddess of love, fertility, and battle, Freyja has quickly adapted to indoor life. She’s discovered the comforts of soft bedding, enjoys head rubs, and even uses a litterbox. Freyja loves exploring and requires plenty of space to roam, reflecting on her days as a street-smart rabbit. With a charming personality, she approaches people for attention early, often nudging to request more pets.

GCVS’s partnership with Houston Rabbit Resource and Houston photographer, Robyn Arouty has enabled Freyja’s journey from street survivor to adoption hopeful. Now, GCVS and Houston Rabbit Resource are calling on the community to help find Freyja the loving home she deserves.
